A note from Joe
A good Saturday usually begins with a full tank and no hurry.
The name came from a phrase that already belonged to this place. In the 1920s, the state earned the nickname ‘The Good Roads State’ as its new highway system stitched county seats together. I like what it makes room for now: Jordan Lake after coffee, a familiar loop near the lake, or a longer run west when the weather is right.
The other part is the people. Charlotte’s racing history is close by, and a Porsche gathering can turn one question about an air-cooled engine into a whole afternoon. Come for the cars; stay for the conversations and the places they take us.
For me, it began with the black 911 Turbo from Bad Boys on my bedroom wall. I kept looking at that car and thinking that one day I would work hard enough to put one in my own driveway. There are still roads I want to discover with the people who understand that feeling. Let’s ride.

Some days I want to hear an old flat six at idle. Other days I want to know who is coming to the track. Both belong here.
The car deserves a weekend now and then.
Brevard for the bends. Beaufort for the sea air. The Smokies when you want to make a proper trip of it.

Three places I would mention in the car.
People’s Coffee after Jordan Lake, Carrigan Farms off the north lake road, Cup & Saucer before or after the Forest Heritage drive. I would check hours before heading out.

If the Jordan Lake road brings us into Pittsboro before lunch, this is where I would let the morning stretch. The coffee is local, the stop sits inside Mosaic and it gives the drive a natural pause before heading back toward Raleigh.

When the north lake route needs more than another waterfront pin, Carrigan Farms gives it a real North Carolina sense of place. It is a working fifth-generation farm with seasonal programs and a quarry; check the calendar before you point the car that way.

After a western North Carolina morning, I like a simple table in Brevard more than a complicated finish. Cup & Saucer is right on East Main, which makes it easy to park, slow down and talk about the road we just took.
